"Big Sister" is an absolute treat. Geared toward the older sibling dealing with a new baby, the book speaks to that child's frustration and observations with respect to the new sibling. The humorous descriptions of the "Big Sister's" parents and their responses to sleep deprivation are classic. Addressing the issue of an older, only, child becoming a sibling was done without making the "Big Sister" seem to be a spoiled diva. It is obvious Kurt Zimmerman has dealt with the issue in his own family. Only someone who has experienced the trials, tribulation, and joy of an infant could have written the book.

Colorful, charming illustrations enhance the story and help maintain the interest of younger children. The dimension and depth of the pictures sets the Zimmerman books apart from those that use only child-like line drawings.

The rhyming in "Big Sister" is easy to read; it flows smoothly. The humor of the situations is laugh-aloud funny - my grandson, my daughter and I were all laughing as I read the book. My granddaughter just smiled as she listened to the story of a baby who had upended his household in much the same manner she has done to hers. I particularly liked that Kurt Zimmerman was able to incorporate faith into the final page of the book.

Big Sister edition by Kurt Zimmerman Michelle Zimmerman Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

the book is written from the big sister's point of view. she use to have fun with MOm, but since the new baby came it is all about him. It's a cute book, my 8 year old daughter liked it since we have a 2 year old baby boy.
I bought this book for one of my granddaughters who will find out very soon she is FINALLY going to be a Big Sister. She is seven, and this book is going to be perfect. It shows how life with a new born isn't all the older sibling thought it would be, but she realizes it may not be that bad afterall. I love the rhymes!
Cute, funny, and informative! Even though the age range was younger than I'd hoped for, sharing it with a 9 year old soon-to-be big sister still provided the opportunity for a glimpse into the changes, responsibilities, and joys to come!
Pleasant rhymes (sometimes humorous!) and characters that I can most definitely identify with given I have several children for which the last is a son and I know I've witnessed some of the same kinds of interactions between them at times. Loved it and I will be looking for many more works from this author in the near future!
Very cute pictures and dialogue is up to date. A good book for new sisters. I will read it to my granddaughter.
I I liked the plot and the illustrations as well! And of course the cute little girl's perspective of now having a little brother and her feeling like she had become a maid and not loved and cared for as she once had.nI recommend this book for parents to read at bedtime to their child or children who have just had a new baby girl or boy enter into the equation of their home life and finding that their's jealousy there among the older sibling(s). I gave the author Kurt five stars for what I thought was a well written children's story. GreT job!
"Big Sister" is a very good children's book. The illustrations are very expressive and appealing. The rhymes were very well done, and flowed smoothly and naturally. The story had a wry sense of humour that is sure to amuse adults and children alike, as the big sister details all the ways in which a new baby has disrupted her and her parent's lives. In the end, though, the big sister comes to terms with the changes and reflects upon all the things she will be able to teach her new brother.

I could really relate to the big sister's huge disappointment when she expected to get a new playmate and got a sibling that was definitely not a playmate. Whenever he was getting a new sibling, we told our first born child that he was getting someone with whom he could play. Then each time we brought the new baby home, he was very disgruntled because we brought home 'something' that was definitely NOT the playmate we had promised. This book captures the reality of a new baby for an older sibling beautifully.

I think adults and children will love this book simply for its humour, but an added bonus is its ability to open a discussion about having a new baby in the household. It is a book well worth adding to a child's library and it is not one that a child will tire of quickly. So be prepared to have to read it over and over again.
